So, let's talk Social Media.

Is there really such a thing as a "Perfect Formula"? An elusive, magical 4 step plan to blast you off to social media stardom and viral fame?

And how about Ads? Is there a magical way to target the right audience with the perfect ad to get you going?

The answer to all of them is no. Not at all. With so many 'Gurus' and Agencies on the web pushing ' The Best Way to do Social Media in 2023' or their ' Secret steps to perfect Social Media Ads ', it's easy to believe there might be a foolproof and guaranteed way to use your social networks for maximum growth - but it's not that simple.

Each brand, business, or person is different - we've all got different personalities, opinions, and ways of speaking. Social media strategies should be based on that and tailored differently to each business' audience. Following some guaranteed approach or ‘Million Dollar Ad Formula ' might give you pointers for what to do, but there's no real 'One Size Fits All' strategy to use. After all, social media isn't all about getting more leads and sales. It's also meant for brands or individuals to showcase their personality and connect with their audience through content that reflects that personality. Using social media that way allows brands and people to build stronger and deeper relationships with their audience rather than just constantly marketing to them.

It's All About Influence

In Essence, the true strength of social media isn’t in marketing but Influence.

This power to influence consumers, when used strategically, is what makes social media one of the most powerful forms of digital marketing of this day and age. Rather than being another communication channel to simply bombard consumers with adverts to buy a product, social networks offer an avenue for businesses to engage with their audience to show how great and time-saving a product is, how many people love it, its different uses, why it’s better than others, and any other such points. Put together, all those reasons influence your audience’s choices and ultimate decision in which product to buy; and when done right, should lead them to your product.

However, it doesn’t mean that social media marketing is an easy process or a magical seed that grows your business into a viral success overnight – far from it. That being said, it doesn’t necessarily mean that Social Media needs to be complicated either. Here’s 4 main points to consider when setting up your Social Media Strategy.

1. Develop Your Customer Profiles

Each Social Network is better for specific types of audiences. For example, the Facebook audience is typically older than the audiences on TikTok. Ideally, you should have a strong idea of what type of person you want to target for each social network. Using the same content across the board possible, but it’s possible that it wouldn’t work as well as custom content – developing your customer profile will help you to decide on that.

2. Establish Your Brand Identity

The most important part of any marketing, whether it’s on social media or not, is to properly define your Brand’s Identity. All your colours, design styles, captions, and even your website or store decorations should all reflect what your brand feels like - its personality. Defining that Personality of your brand is crucial as it allows your audience to know what to expect and feel, and to truly connect with your brand. We go over the process of creating a brand identity over in one of our previous posts - Building a Brand Strategy. Check it out if you’re in the process of creating your new brand!

3. Post Relevant Content

Social Media is essentially the art of knowing what to say, when to say it, how to say it, and who to say it to for the best results. Taking your brand identity and ideal customer profiles into account should enable you to come up with a relatively good idea of what to post to get your audience’s attention and begin engaging with them through your content. Make sure to stick to a steady posting cadence and to keep your content branded and relevant.

4. Engaging With Your Audience

Managing your brand’s account means more than just posting content and liking comments – people want engagement. Engagement is more than a metric and just likes and comments from your followers; engaging with your audience means replying to comments, posting memes or content around inside jokes or relevant issues, and even poking fun of yourself when the situation calls for it. Your brand has a personality that defines it, and that identity is what shapes your audience’s expectations when interacting with you – whether they expect you to reply seriously or with tongue-in-cheek replies depends on your identity, and it’s something you have to stick to as much as possible.

While a Social Media Strategy is much more complicated than just those 4 points, those are the ones we believe have the biggest impact on any brand’s social networks. Although, there are a few more important things to consider when running your brand’s (or personal) social media.

Social Media is a great way to boost your brand's presence, and put your self out there, but learning the intricacies of Social Media Marketing requires a lot of time, effort, and research to be pulled off properly. And, while Social Media is definitely a good channel for getting leads and generating brand awareness, it's also a great way to expose lousy service, bad products, and even bad business practices. That's something we can help you with.
